THE SANCTUARY

This job was a little different than your typical interior design project. A special client who I have worked with for several years approached me to design an outdoor courtyard. My client wanted to utilise this space more often by bringing it to life. As the home was a rental property, everything that was selected had to be removable. Therefore a combination of pots, screens, tables, solar lighting and a removable water feature were used to achieve this. This space is now a beautiful sanctuary that my client enjoys with family, friends and pets.

This was a very rewarding project to work on. My clients required design assistance to produce an accessible main bedroom and walk in robe, as one of them uses a wheelchair. In turn, this design had to not only be light and inviting, but functional and cohesive. Through making large and small changes to this space, this room is now provides my clients with independence, privacy and a space they can retreat to and enjoy.

For this project, our client played a significant role in how this space was executed. With an idea of the overall layout in mind and having selected each of the finishes, fittings and fixtures, they required assistance to bring each of these elements together and see their vision come to fruition. The collaboration is a true demonstration of how the client, designer and joiner can work together to achieve a common goal and create not only a functional space, but one which is truly captivating.
